Paris sits close to some of France's most famous sights — some are an easy half-day, others push the definition of "day trip." Here's a realistic rundown of six of the best, ranked roughly by how far they are.
1. Versailles (45 min)
The palace, gardens, and Marie-Antoinette's estate. The single most popular day trip from Paris, and an easy one — comfortably done in half a day, or a full day if you want to see everything.
2. Giverny (1 hour)
Monet's house and water garden. Best from late spring through summer when the water lilies are in bloom; open March through early November only.
3. Champagne — Reims & Épernay (1.5 hours)
Gothic cathedral, chalk cellars, and Champagne tastings. Book cellar tours in advance, especially on weekends.
4. Loire Valley Castles (2 hours)
Chambord, Chenonceau, Amboise — pick two rather than three to actually enjoy them without rushing.
5. Disneyland Paris (40 min)
Not the countryside, but the most requested day trip for families. The RER A gets you there, though a private van is easier with kids and strollers.
6. Mont Saint-Michel (4-5 hours)
The most iconic, and the most demanding as a single day — consider an overnight stay near the Mont if your schedule allows it.
In Short
Versailles, Giverny, and Disneyland Paris are the easiest single-day trips. Champagne and the Loire Valley are doable but ask for an early start. Mont Saint-Michel is worth it, but is better as an overnight than a rushed day.
